Week 13: The Park

This week per everyone's demand I started working on the park that will display all of the scan data that I have collected. I have decided to do this render in the Unreal Engine because it does a good job at realistic lighting and foliage. The first thing I needed to figure out was what kind of park should I do. Then it hit me, the one block sized park in downtown Chico is perfect and is very well laid out for some sculptures. So I was able to use google maps as reference:

What was nice about using google maps is that they have a measuring tool to see how far away something is from point to point. So I was able to measure how long the park is and scale my base plane based on that measurement. Once I figured all of this out I was able to start modeling in Maya.

The park has many modular peaces, so I was able to model and UV one corner peace and copy it around so that it looks like Chico's downtown park. Once everything was finished in Maya I exported out the corner peace and textured it in substance painter.

Once I was finished texturing it in Substance Painter I started looking trough the Unreal Marketplace for tree packs. Luckily I found one it didn't cost much so I decided to purchase it and I really like the trees that came with it. Here it is:

Once I set the tree package Up in Unreal I started dragging in my park peaces that are finished for now into the scene with some textures applied. I was then able to align the trees to the ground mesh and this is what I have so far in Unreal.

I will soon texture the ground as well as add more assets to the park. I might also add some streets but I also like just having the square so I'll weigh my options on what I'll do about decorating the block. Lastly of course I will add the rest of my scans to the park in various areas that they best fit. I threw the hands in there to see how they look as a center peace and so far so good.
